Is Chester’s Chicken open at I-90 Exit 205?

Yes. Chester’s Chicken opened inside GS Truck Stop in August 2026 and is frying now. The counter sits in the same building as the Shell pumps, the convenience store, the restrooms and Subway — one door, everything behind it.

The chicken counter runs 10 AM to 2 AM every day, weekends included. The rest of the stop keeps its own clock: fuel, the store and the restrooms are open 24 hours, and the Subway counter runs 9 AM to 2 AM.

That 2 AM close is the part that matters most on this stretch. Exit 205 sits on the Cleveland-to-Erie run, and by ten or eleven at night most kitchens between here and the state line have already shut their fryers down. Chester’s has not.

Three things on the boards are worth knowing before you walk up:

  • Big Meals — 8 piece bone-in with two large sides and 4 biscuits, or 12 piece bone-in with two large sides and 6 biscuits. This is the “feed the whole flock” option.
  • The Fuel Up Menu — the value board: a fried pie; leg and thigh with a biscuit; medium livers or gizzards with a biscuit; 2 tenders with a biscuit; 4 piece dark with a biscuit; 2 chicken sandwiches; or 12 piece dark, chicken only.
  • Dipping sauces — Chester’s Sauce, honey mustard, ranch, BBQ and buffalo.

Current prices are posted on the boards at the counter, and the team will happily walk you through the combos.

For truckers on I-90

Hot food without leaving the lot

The pitch for professional drivers is simple: you are already stopping for fuel, so eat something better than a vending machine while you are here. The chicken counter is a short walk from the semi-truck parking — spacious, lighted, with easy in and out for 53-foot trailers. Pull in, park, eat, use the restrooms and roll.

The Fuel Up Menu exists for exactly this: quick, cheap and one-handed. A fried pie, a leg and thigh with a biscuit, 2 tenders with a biscuit, 4 piece dark with a biscuit, or two chicken sandwiches if the day has been long. Chicken Bites and tenders travel better than anything you have to unwrap with both hands.

The rest of the stop is built the same way. Blue DEF is $1.99 a gallon year-round, high-speed diesel and fleet cards are handled at the pumps, the restrooms are clean and the store never closes. If you would rather have a sandwich, the Subway is in the same building — and a 100+ gallon diesel fill earns a free footlong.

For travelers & RVs

Feed the whole car

If you are running I-90 with a car full of people, Exit 205 is a single stop that solves fuel, restrooms, coffee and dinner at once — no second detour, no drive-thru line.

Big Meals are the move for a group: 8 or 12 pieces of bone-in chicken with two large sides and a stack of honey butter biscuits. Split it in the car, or take it to the covered outdoor patio if the weather is behaving. For smaller appetites, Chicken Bites and hand-held fried pies are the easiest things to eat on the road.

RVs are welcome — there is pull-through access, and propane refills are $9.99 for a 20 lb tank (service 10 AM to 7 PM daily, all tank types). While the chicken is coming up, the GS Cafe Columbia bean-to-cup coffee is ground fresh every cup, and the convenience store has a walk-in Beer Cave for later.

For Painesville, Concord, Mentor, Perry & Madison

Fried chicken near me, without driving into town

You do not have to be passing through. If you live in Lake County, Chester’s at Exit 205 is a legitimate weeknight dinner run — and often a faster one than the chains, because there is no drive-thru queue and the lot is enormous.

  • Painesville and Concord — a few minutes up Vrooman Road.
  • Mentor and Willoughby — a straight run east on I-90 to Exit 205.
  • Perry and Madison — a short run west on I-90 or along Route 20.

Two things locals tend to use it for. First, takeout dinner: an 8 or 12 piece Big Meal with two large sides and biscuits feeds a family without anybody cooking. Second, late food — the counter is still frying at midnight and closes at 2 AM, which covers second shift, a late game, or the drive home from Cleveland.

Chester’s Chicken: the story behind the chicken

Chester’s is not a new brand — it is one of the oldest fried chicken names in the country, and one of the least likely to have a restaurant of its own.

The roots go back to 1952, when W.O. Giles started frying donuts, and later chicken, using his own patented fryers in Montgomery, Alabama. The cowboy-hatted Chester mascot showed up in 1965. The proprietary chicken products that gave the brand its signature taste arrived in 1974, along with the name most people still recognise: Chester Fried. “Fried” was dropped from the official name in 2022.

In March 2004 Chester’s moved from a licensed concept to a full franchise model, and that is when it grew into what it is today: more than 1,300 franchised and licensed locations across the United States and Canada, the great majority of them inside convenience stores, supermarkets and truck stops rather than standalone restaurants. The company is still owned by the Giles family, now in its third generation.

The brand describes its mission as “to provide delicious food in surprising places” — which is a fair description of finding genuinely good double-breaded fried chicken at a Shell station off I-90. You can read the full company history on the Chester’s Chicken site.
